Profile
I am a UK/Spain based film and television writer/director. I originally trained as an editor, working on a wide variety of projects for UK broadcasters, before moving on to direct my first documentary series, Crusade, for Discovery US. This was followed by a slate of history documentaries, and a Grammy-nominated profile of comedian Stan Laurel for the prestigious arts series The South Bank Show.
In 2001, I established an independent production company, Infonation Media where I produced a wide reaching catalogue of programmes, devising a number of original documentary formats and commissioning other producers. I produced and directed three award-winning series – The Edge (Discovery), Style Tribes (Sky Arts), and Beyond Babel (Discovery), along with The Big Picture, an interactive DVD guide to the British feature film production industry, which included interviews with more than 100 film industry professionals contained within 23 individual documentaries.
I also wrote, produced and directed the ground breaking reality series China Challenge, which had the distinction of being the first foreign television series, made specifically for the Chinese market, to be broadcast across China by CCTV 1, China’s state broadcaster. UK/China Challenge drew a first-run audience of 130 million viewers.
My experience as a television writer/director covers a whole range of genres, including the arts, history, travel, science, reality, current affairs and most recently, drama. I have filmed on location in twenty six countries and as well as working for the main UK channels my work has been screened in 130 countries by 540 broadcasters.
Recently I have turned my attention to writing drama for the cinema and TV. I’ve also published a number of short stories and am currently working on a novel.
